Apparent Abduction Attempts Under Investigation By Stafford Police

Women said they felt like they were being followed inside the Manahawkin Target in posts that have been circulating Facebook this week.

MANAHAWKIN, NJ — Stafford police are investigating claims of recent abduction attempts at the Target Shopping Center in Stafford Park Plaza.

Two Facebook posts have been circulating this week, where women said they felt nervous that they were being followed inside of Target.

"We would like to assure the public that we take these incidents seriously, and always investigate any suspicious activity to its logical conclusion," police said in a statement.

Police said that they have "thoroughly investigated" the first incident, and found no criminal activity or intent.

While the second incident is still under investigation, police "have not found anything that would lead us to believe that there are individuals targeting young females in our town," they said.

Police urge residents to stay vigilant and aware of their surroundings.

"We would like the public to remain informative, and encourage interaction with our department," police said.
