UPDATE: Barnegat Police Charge Township Woman in Fatal Hit-And-Run

Vehicle that struck and killed township woman Monday morning located in Center Street driveway.

Barnegat police have arrested a township woman in connection with the fatal hit-and-run that took the life of a Barnegat woman on Monday morning.

Cassie Hansen, 27, was arrested after police and members of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office located a tan Chevrolet Silverado with front passenger side damage in the driveway of a Center Street home, police said.

She was charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident that resulted in death, police said. Hansen was taken to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River in lieu of $150,000 cash bail.

Marie Thorne, 61. was killed in the 7:50 a.m. accident.

An anonymous citizen who had seen reports of the vehicle believed to have been in the accident flagged down Patrolman Kyle Cranmer and told him he had just seen a vehicle matching the description heading South on Route 9, police said.

Barnegat officers saturated the area and a short time later Sgt. Jason Carroll located a tan Chevrolet Silvardao truck with front passenger side damage in the driveway of a Center Street address, police said.

Hansen was arrested at the address.

"The Barnegat Police Department would like to thank the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and Ocean County Sheriff's Department for their outstanding technical and investigative support and expertise," police said in a release. "We would also like to thank the members of the public and media for their invaluable help throughout the investigation."
