Barnegat Man Dies In Snowmobile Crash In New York State

MONTAGUE, NY — A Barnegat Township man is among two people who died early Friday in a snowmobile crash in New York State, New York State Police said.

Nicholas J. Klym, 64, of Barnegat, was killed in the crash that happened about 12:45 a.m. Friday on a trail in the Lewis County town that is about 90 minutes northeast of Syracuse, police said.

Klym was driving a 2012 Polaris snowmobile west on Rector Road, also known as Trail C5B, collided with a 2016 Polaris snowmobile driven by Charles C. Eldred Jr., 44, of Canandaigua, New York, police said.

The head-on crash killed both men at the scene, police said.

The preliminary investigation suggested Klym failed to keep right at the crest of a small hill where the crash happened, state police said. The investigation is continuing.
