Barnegat Man Suffers Smoke Inhalation, Burns In House Fire

Windward Drive home had major damage, police said.

An 82-year-old Barnegat man suffered smoke inhalation and burns when a fire broke out at his Windward Drive home late this afternoon, Sgt. Jeffrey Ryan said.

Benjamin Morrow was taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center by Quality Medical Transport after the blaze began around 4:39 p.m. Ryan said.

The home sustained major damage. Two surrounding houses also suffered minor damages, he said.

Members of the Barnegat Volunteer Fire Company responded and extinguished the fire. The Stafford Township Volunteer Fire Company and the Forked River Fire Company also assisted, Ryan said.

A small area of Windward Drive currently remains closed while fire personnel and investigators remain on scene.

The fire is under investigation by the Barnegat Police Department Investigative Division and the Ocean County Fire
