Barnegat Township Cancels Its Summer Camps Due To Coronavirus
'There doesn't seem to be a viable way we can guarantee everyone's safety and maintain social distancing among our campers,' officials said.
BARNEGAT, NJ — Barnegat Township canceled its summer camps because of the coronavirus, officials announced Tuesday. The Recreation Department called it a "difficult" decision for the Township Committee and administration.
"If and when the restrictions are lifted, there doesn’t seem to be a viable way we can guarantee everyone’s safety and maintain social distancing among our campers," the Nixle alert says.
Governor Phil Murphy extended New Jersey's public health emergency until June 7. As the State gradually lifts coronavirus restrictions, it leaves an uncertain future for summer camps and activities.
