Beach Replenishment In Beach Haven And Holgate To Start In January

The Army Corps of Engineers will begin beach replenishment work in Beach Haven and the Holgate section of Long Beach Township in January, according to The Sandpaper.

Army Corps and state Department of Environmental Protection officials outlined the project - designed to reduce storm damage to infrastructure - at a recent Township Council meeting.

The $128 million project on Long Beach Island will run 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with beach closings at roughly 1,000-foot sections.

The project began in Ship Bottom in early May. Construction then moved to Long Beach Township, and work is ongoing in the Brant Beach section of the municipality. The timeline for replenishment in the remaining sections of Long Beach Township is still pending, DEP project manager Chris Constantino said.

Weather permitting, work is required to be completed by April 12, 2016.
