Bengals Blitz: Boys Lacrosse Wins Three
A look back at the week past and a look ahead at the week to come in Barnegat High School Sports

Baseball: After one week of play, the Barnegat Bengals varsity baseball team sits at 1-2, including 1-1 in 'B' South play. Following losing a heartbreaker to begin the season, the Bengals bounced back quickly and played well enough to earn a 4-3 win over Pinelands Regional. Pitcher Rob DeSanti went the distance for a complete game while going 2-for-3 in the batters box and scoring twice. Freshman Nick Fraim continued to prove himself worthy of varsity playing time going 2-for-3 with a run scored. In a loss against Manchester, Mark McCoy went seven innings as well to earn a no decision in a 4-1 loss that went into extra innings.
Barnegat will be back in action for two games this week, starting with Brick Township on Monday at 11AM. After hosting Brick, the Bengals will go on the road for a 3:45 contest at Lacey. Both games will be 'B' South divisional play.
Softball: Barnegat softball picked up a win last week over Toms River South. The 3-1 victory for the Lady Bengals removed any sour taste of a 4-3 loss to Pinelands Regional after breating Point Boro on opening day. In the loss to the Wildcats, Amber Leary had a big day with a double and two RBI's on her 3-for-4 day.

Next up for the Lady Bengals is Brick Township on Monday at 11AM at home and then a trip to Central Regional also at 11AM on Wednesday.
Boys Lacrosse: Perhaps the most exciting news in Barnegat sports is the boys lacrosse team. After winning only one game last year, the Bengals have tripled that in just four games this year. The Bengals picked up tight wins over St. Rose and St. John Vianney and squeaked out an 8-7 overtime win over Ocean Township.

With three games on schedule this week, all eyes will be on Barnegat to see if this streak can continue. On Monday the Bengals will be visiting Brick Memorial at 10AM and again take to the road on Wednesday, this time to Shore Regional, also at 10AM. To close the week, on Thursday, the Bengals will host Jackson Liberty at 10AM.
Girls Lacrosse: The Lady Bengals have started 2012 modestly at .500. Barnegat opened the season with a 15-5 loss to Toms River South but responded quickly with a 19-5 win over Pinelands Regional. 15 first half goals paved the way to victory for the Lady Bengals.
The Lady Bengals will be quite busy this week with three games starting on Monday at 10AM hosting Neptune. Two days later and it will be the Bengals playing the role of visitor when they travel to take on Brick Township at 10AM on Wednesday. Lacey will be awaiting Barnegat on Thursday at 11:30 as the local rivals will square off in Barnegat.
