Bengals Blitz: Spring Sports Underway, Busy Week Ahead
Barnegat High School sports teams began play Saturday and will continue throughout this week

High School sports fans just got a taste of the action to come throughout the spring Saturday as we look back at what happened, and what is to come with a busy week looming.
Baseball: The Bengals fell by just a hair Saturday, against the Point Pleasant Boro Panthers. After falling behind 5-0 in the first two innings, the Bengals answered immediately with two runs in the bottom of the second and another run in the third to make the score 5-3. Barnegat presented a scare with a run in the seventh a final frame, but the potential game tying run was thrown out at the plate to conclude the contest. Barnegat outhit the Panthers 4-2, yet issued nine walks. Niklas Fraim made a big impact in his first game. The freshman collected his first hit and RBI in the same at bat.
Barnegat will play at Pinelands Regional on Monday at 3:45 before coming back home and playing Manchester on Wednesday at 3:45. On Monday, April 9th, Barnegat will take on defending B South champions Brick Township at home, at 11AM.

Softball: Coach Laura Miller's Lady Bengals bashed their way to a season opening 16-2 win over Point Pleasant Boro High School, on Saturday. In fact, it only took Barnegat five innings before the mercy rule was applied, ending the game two innings early.
The girls schedule will be identical to the boys in the next week, with an additional game against Toms River South on Thursday at 3:45, at home.

Boys Lacrosse: Coach Ryan Dalon's Bengals squad fell Saturday to perennially tough Wall Township. On a positive note for Barnegat, they held the Knights to under 10 goals, losing 9-4. In building up a program Barnegat will need to be able to find positives at tough times and being able to hang with Wall is just that.
Up next on the schedule is a series of winnable games. On Monday at 4:00 the Bengals will host St. Rose. Much like Barnegat, St. Rose is a program still in its youth. At 4:00 on Wednesday the Bengals will travel to Holmdel to take on St. John Vianney before a quick turnaround with a 3:00 game at Ocean Township on Thursday. On Monday April 9th, at 10AM the Bengals will travel to Brick Memorial to take on the Mustangs as spring break begins.
Girls Lacrosse: The Lady Bengals season opener against Ocean Township was delayed until April 7th because of the rain on Saturday. Instead, Coach Jessica Cassamento's squad will begin play on Monday at 3:45 at Toms River South. The girls will follow that up with home games on Wednesday and Thursday against Pinelands and Manchester, both beginning at 3:45. On Saturday they will travel to Ocean and on Monday at 10 am they will be hosting Neptune.
