Bengals Blitz: State Playoff Recaps
A look back on how the Bengals performed in post season play.

Boys Basketball: The No. 5 seeded Bengals made quick work of visiting West Deptford in their first round match-up, getting off to a quick start in the South Jersey Group II playoffs. In the 69-41 win, the middle two quarters made all the difference. The Benagls out scored West Deptford 38-12 comined in the second and third quarter, paving the way to a win. Aaron McGugan scored 19 points and was followed closely by Jordan Salt with 18. Anthony McGugan chipped in 12 in addition, including two three pointers.
In the second round battle, the Bengals were not as fortunate as they fell 62-38 at Haddonfield. Haddonfield, seeded No. 4, went on to the SJII championship game before falling to Willingboro. Jordan Salt scored 12 and Pat Zanzalari scored 10 but the McGugan's were bottled up, contributing nine points between the two.
Girls Basketball: The Lady Bengals faced a tough road test traveling to Sterling to take on the three seed. Barnegat, seeded 14, fell 64-51, but should feel no shame as Sterling advanced to the semi-finals.

Wrestling: The pride of Barnegat wrestling all year has been senior Matt Schofield. After placing third in the Region 6 wrestling tournament, the 195 pounder punched his ticket to Atlantic City for the State tournament. To place third, Schofield defeated Raritan senior Vic Ianello 5-2.
For a program that was started in 2007, Schnofield was the first Bengal to advance to the state tournament. In the first round of the state tournament, Schofield lost an extremely close match to Anthony Iarussi of Summit by virtue of a tiebreaker. The loss was only his third of the season as he finished his career going 33-3 in his senior season.
