Body Pulled From Lagoon In Southern Ocean: Prosecutor

Authorities are investigating an apparent drowning after the body of an elderly woman was found floating in a lagoon Sunday.

LITTLE EGG HARBOR, NJ — An apparent drowning is under investigation after the body of an elderly woman was found floating in a lagoon in Little Egg Harbor Sunday morning, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

Police went to a home on North Boom Street at about 7:45 a.m. Dec. 29 after a woman was reported floating in the lagoon behind a home, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

The body of a deceased, elderly woman was removed from the water, Billhimer said.

The circumstances of the drowning are currently under investigation.

“This apparent drowning is currently under investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Major Crime Unit, Little Egg Harbor Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit,” Billhimer said. “While tragic, the death of this female does not appear to be suspicious at this time.”
