BOE Agenda Highlights

Here are a few items of interest from the agenda for the upcoming Barnegat Board of Education meeting, which will be held at 6:30 p.m. tonight, Aug. 16, at .

• A representative from DeCotiis, FitzPatrick & Cole, LLP, the board’s bond counsel, will speak at the meeting about a public petition encouraging the board to use its additional state aid to pay down the principal on the district’s outstanding bonds, in order to reduce future debt service payments.

• The board will vote on the approval of the contract for the legal acceptance of the steel beam from the World Trade Towers, a 9/11 artifact given to the district by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

• Ten new faculty and staff hires will be approved.

• The board will vote on the award of a bid for $36,303 worth of new telephone equipment to Cooperative Communications. 

• The approval of a revised 2011-2012 school calendar is also up for a vote, with the addition of four delayed openings for staff professional development: Oct. 12, Dec. 13, Feb. 9 and April 2.

• Among the purchases to be addressed by the board at the meeting is the buying of $11,340 worth of DVRs, paid for by proceeds from the sale of 12 salvage buses that netted the district $19,590.
