Event Details
Please join us for a leisurely walk on the Ocean County Parks Barnegat Branch Trail on Thursday, June 25 starting at 6:30 PM. The walk will cover ½ mile and will conclude well before sunset at approximately 8:00 PM.
The event will begin at the trailhead parking lot on Railroad Avenue. We will stop at the sites of selected plants along the trail and will learn about how they have impacted us historically and in modern times.
Club member and naturalist McDuffy Barrow will lead the walk, identifying both native and non-native plants that border the trail. Some of the plants we’ll encounter include Red Mulberry, Black Walnut, Wineberry and Persimmon. The group will proceed to the turntable area near Rose Hill Road and end the walk by returning to the parking area on Railroad Avenue.
The entire trip will be done in daylight. Comfortable walking shoes and water are recommended. Insect repellant may be an option for some, but we shouldn’t encounter much in the way of biting insects.
