Car Bursts Into Flames After Rear-Ending Another In Manahawkin: Police
Route 72 was temporarily closed Monday as the scene was secured.
MANAHAWKIN, NJ — A vehicle that burst into flames after rear-ending another car Monday shut down Route 72 temporarily, Stafford police said.
It was about 12 p.m. when the Subaru Forester rear-ended a Chevrolet Suburban near OceanFirst Bank, police said.
The Subaru caught fire and quickly became engulfed in flames, police said.

The Stafford Township Fire Department arrived on scene shortly after the crash and extinguished the fire. Route 72 eastbound was temporarily closed while emergency personnel secured the scene, and traffic was diverted onto McKinley Avenue.
No one was injured, police said. The Subaru's driver was able to safely exit the vehicle before it became engulfed in flames.

The Subaru's driver was issued a summons for careless driving.
The incident was subsequently referred to the Stafford Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit for follow-up investigation.
