BARNEGAT, NJ — The Barnegat Board of Education has set a special meeting this week to discuss the curriculum for the upcoming school year.

At the last meeting on Aug. 22, an evenly split board was unable to approve a new curriculum for the 2023-24 school year, which begins next week.

It wasn't clear why four board members voted no as there was no prior discussion, but the decision would cost the district at least $15,000, Board President Sean O'Brien told Patch. Read more: No Approved Curriculum Sends Barnegat School District Scrambling

"Substantive changes" needed to be made to each curricular document before it could be approved since the board did not approve it, O'Brien said, adding hours of extra work. This work needed to be completed by the special meeting.

The special meeting is set for Aug. 31 at 5 p.m. in the Barnegat High School library.

No agenda has been posted as of Tuesday afternoon, but the notice for the meeting specifically mentions its purpose is to discuss the 2023-24 revised curriculum.
