District to Award Bid for Mold Remediation at Collins School

Expense will come at no additional cost to taxpayers, says district

The Barnegat Township School District will award to a contractor Monday to begin mold remediation at , according to a press release sent out Friday afternoon.

The process will require removing and replacing ceiling tiles, shelving, closets, and other items areas where the mold cannot be completely removed, officials said in the release. Contractors will also remove carpets and replace them with tile, clean all surfaces and repaint classrooms.

Details on how long the remediation will take and how much it will ultimately cost were not available Friday, though the release said roof repairs – part of the process – should "only take a couple of weeks to complete."

Funding for the cleanup will come out of the district's maintenance reserve account, the release said, which means it will be completed at "no additional burden to our taxpayers."

Officials also said custodial and maintenance staff will move into various sections of the school as they are declared mold free to begin replacing tiles, cabinets, whiteboards and other needed items, allowing for a quick return to student-ready status.
