Documentary Focuses On History of Commercial Fishing On Long Beach Island

"Yesterday's Fish, Today's Challenges" premieres at the Viking Village in Barnegat Light on Saturday.

Longtime Barnegat Light commercial fisherman Capt. Skip Gallimore lived to tell about the time his boat was hit by a rogue wave on the way back from the Grand Banks off Newfoundland in 1981.

Gallimore is one of a number of Long Beach Island’s commercial fisherman who have braved the Atlantic over the past 150 years. His story is featured in a new documentary “Yesterday’s Fish, Today’s Challenges” that will debut dockside at Viking Village in Barnegat Light on Saturday night, according to The Sandpaper.

Director David Kaltenbach of Barnegat Light will show the film for free at 19th Street and Bayview at 8:30 p.m. The event begins at 8 p.m., with a discussion and question and answer period.
