Driver Speeding At 100-MPH Killed In LBI Crash: Police

A driver who was speeding at 100 mph was killed in a car crash on Long Beach Island this weekend, police said.

A driver who was speeding at 100 mph was killed in a car crash on Long Beach Island this weekend, police said.

The accident happened at 6 a.m. on Saturday when Ship Bottom Police were told that an erratic driver in a four-door Toyota was speeding in excess of 100 mph on Long Beach Boulevard.

There was no vehicle pursuit whatsoever, police said.

The Toyota entered Ship Bottom, where it crashed at the intersection of Long Beach Boulevard and 11th Street, police said.

A preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the Toyota, a 60-year-old man from Conshohocken, Pa., was traveling at an extreme rate of speed and struck a Roselle Garbage Truck and a Ford pickup, police said.

Both vehicles were stopped at the red traffic signal at the intersection, with the dump truck in the right lane and pickup in the left.

The driver of the Toyota was transported to SOMC where he was pronounced dead. Long Beach Boulevard was closed from 9th to 12th Street for approximately five hours.
