Duo Charged After High-End Vehicles Stolen From LBI: Police

LONG BEACH TWP., NJ — Charges have been filed in connection with the theft of two high-end vehicles stolen Aug. 21 in the area between 30th Street in Ship Bottom and 50th Street in Long Beach Township, according to the Long Beach Township Police Department.

Police reported the vehicles were taken at about 1:30 a.m. and were recovered later that morning.

The department said both vehicles had been left unlocked, with the keys inside. After the thefts were reported, the Long Beach Township Police Department investigated with help from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit and the Ship Bottom Police Department.

According to the police department, the investigation determined that a 21-year-old man from Newark conspired with a juvenile to steal both vehicles. On Sept. 17, probable cause was found to charge both individuals with theft of a motor vehicle and conspiracy to commit theft of a motor vehicle, according to the department.

Police also reported that probable cause was found to charge the juvenile with possession of a stolen motor vehicle while in Long Beach Township, specifically the vehicle stolen from Ship Bottom. The police department did not release the juvenile’s identity.

“All charges are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law,” the Long Beach Township Police Department said.

The department also acknowledged the agencies involved in the case, stating, “We thank all agencies that have assisted us throughout this investigation.” The statement did not identify the Newark man by name.
