MANAHAWKIN, NJ — A downed electrical pole sparked a fire that's burning on Route 72 in Stafford Tuesday evening, according to police.

The fire was actively burning in the area of Route 72 and the Exxon station as of 8 p.m. Tuesday, Stafford police said.

"Due to safety concerns, traffic has been shut down in both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Route 72 as emergency crews work to address the situation," police said.

Multiple agencies are on the scene dealing with the fire. As of the police alert, no injuries had been reported.

"We ask all residents and motorists to avoid the area and seek alternate routes until further notice," police said.
