MANAHAWKIN, NJ — The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Manahawkin State Farm Agent Lisa Patchell are teaming up, along with the Stafford Township Fire Prevention Bureau, to educate local kids about fire safety and prevention.

Patchell is one of many State Farm agents across the country delivering "Sparky Educator" kits from the NFPA to hundreds of fire departments and school, including Stafford Township Fire Prevention Bureau.

Each kit, designed to educate preschoolers through second graders, includes a Sparky stuffed animal, a large educator book, lesson plan and books to be distributed to children.

Topics include the importance of smoke alarms, creating a home fire escape plan and more.

“These materials capture the attention of young audiences in a fun, but educational way,” Patchell said in a release. “Many fires are preventable and we want to ensure our local kids know how to not only avoid starting fires, but what to do in case one does happen.”
