Five Things Happening This Week

What's coming up in and around Barnegat the week of Feb. 20

Here's a look at what's on the calendar for this week in Barnegat:

  • The Barnegat Township Committee's regular meeting will be held Tuesday instead of Monday this week because of the Presidents Day holiday. A workshop meeting starts at 5 p.m., and the general meeting will start at 6:30 p.m.
  • The Stafford Township Youth Volleyball league is offering registrations for girls in grades 5 through 12. Once-a-week practices start around the first week of March and games, played Friday nights and/or Saturday mornings, will start in mid-March and end the last week of May. Visit www.staffordvolleyballclub.com for signup details.
  • The Open Space Advisory Committee meets Wednesday, Feb. 22 at town hall. Check back with us for the meeting time.
  • The Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences continues its weekly Science Saturdays presentations at 11 a.m. Feb. 25 with a look at what's happening at the Rutgers University Marine Field Station. The station is uniquely located across from the Little Egg inlet in the Mulica River-Great Bay estuary, one of the most pristine estuaries on the east coast. Operations coordinator Roland Hagen will talk about the projects underway there.
  • The Barnegat Recreation Department is offering a basketry class from 10 a.m. to noon at Meadowedge Park Feb. 25. Expert basket weaver Pola Galie will help you create your own bread basket to take home. Ages 9 and up are welcome; there is a $7 fee for materials. Space is limited and registration is required.
