Fundraiser Established For Mom Killed In Southern Ocean County Crash

A GoFundMe for Cortney Downey, 32, has exceeded its goal after she was killed in a head-on Parkway crash Friday night in Little Egg Harbor.

NORTHFIELD, NJ — A fundraiser has been established for a Northfield woman who was killed in a head-on crash on the Garden State Parkway Friday night.

Cortney Downey, 32, and Michelle L. Ross, 50, of Asheville, North Carolina, were killed shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 21 in the wrong way crash near mile marker 59.3, officials previously said. Read More: 2 Killed In Head-On Parkway Crash In Southern Ocean County

Downey was a "beloved friend, sister, mother, and daughter," according to the GoFundMe.

She was killed by a "drunk driver" who was heading the wrong way on the Parkway, according to the fundraiser.

The fundraiser's goal of $15,000 has already been exceeded by more than a thousand dollars as of Monday morning.

Money raised will go towards Downey's funeral expenses, the GoFundMe reads, with the excess being put into a 529 college savings account for her daughter, Brooklyn.

"If you knew Cortney you knew her as a loving soul with the kindest heart who would have done anything for her friends and family, especially her daughter," the GoFundMe says. "Please keep her family in your prayers during this difficult time."
