Hackensack Meridian Health Southern Ocean Medical Center Receives Children's Book Donation form Local Elementary School

June 9, 2017 ― Manahawkin, NJ ― The Martin Truex Jr. Pediatric Care Center located in the Emergency Department at Southern Ocean Medical Center has received a donation of children’s books from students at the George J. Mitchell Elementary (GJU) School in Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey.

Each year, representatives of the GJU Student Government are required to choose at least one local community service project to help members of their community. Students in 4th, 5th and 6th grades brainstormed many ideas and based on one student’s experience in the Emergency Department, they determined that donating their own treasured story books, games, and activity books to the pediatric patients in the ED at Southern Ocean Medical Center would bring happiness and comfort for those waiting for care.

The student s arranged a book drive “A Book Opens Happiness” April 17 to 28 and collected 14 boxes of various books from students and staff at the school. They donated them to the Pediatric ED at Southern Ocean Medical Center so that children and families of the healthy and sick alike could enjoy.

The children of southern Ocean County have their own, family friendly are in the Martin Truex Jr. Pediatric Care Center at Southern Ocean Medical Center. The area features six private rooms for families to comfort their children and has an overnight observation room for children requiring overnight care.
