A Manahawkin landmark will soon close its doors. Killeen's Irish Shop announced it will close permanently and hold a sale Thursday through March 23.

The sale begins at 10 a.m. Thursday and includes all items, such as jewelry, china, hand-knit sweaters, Irish dolls, religious articles, wedding items, Christmas items, capes, greeting cards, home-decor sets and more.

The store endured 40 years of business, owner Peter Killeen wrote on Facebook. Peter adopted the shop from his parents, Frank and Imelda. The store on the corner of North Main Street and East Bay Avenue drastically cut hours several years ago. But after Imelda died in January 2016, Peter decided to bring the shop back to regular hours.

"This whole thing wasn't even a thought until my mom passed," Killeen said in 2016. "I was thinking, should I take it, should I take it? It's more a testament to my mom and dad and their legacy. I thought after they passed, that just to get rid of everything would seem cold."

The shop extended a local special to residents who will be eligible for prizes. If you bring a mail notification or print out the above Facebook post, you will make you eligible for special deals from Thursday to March 6. Visit their contest desk for details and to see prizes on display.

The business says, until March 6, that special sales will apply to local shoppers who received the mail notice or have connected with them on Facebook. But they encourage local customers to bring a friend or loved one who did not receive a special invitation.

"It is our way of THANKING YOU for 40 WONDERFUL YEARS of business and friendship," Killeen wrote on the business's Facebook page. We look forward to seeing you take advantage of these HUGE SAVINGS, while at the same time accomplishing our goals.
