Kite Surfer Rescued From Sand Bar Near Barnegat Light: VIDEO

The kite surfer had gotten stranded on a sand bar and was rescued by the Coast Guard. See video of the rescue:

BARNEGAT LIGHT, NJ — A kite surfer was rescued from a sand bar about a mile from Barnegat Light on Thursday, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

A good Samaritan contacted the Coast Guard Thursday morning and said that a person was stranded on a sand bar and waving for assistance, the Coast Guard said.

The person in distress was reported to be directly across from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light near Sedge Island, according to officials.

A 29-foot response boat crew from the Coast Guard station launched and quickly located the kite surfer needing assistance. The boat crew navigated through shallow water, recovered the man, and transferred him back to the station, the Coast Guard said.

The kite surfer told the Coast Guard that he had been stranded after he tangled with another kite surfer, released his kite and swam to the side of the channel. Both surfers are reported to be in good condition with no medical concerns, the Coast Guard said.
