Man Killed In Fiery Crash In Stafford: Police

An Edison man crashed into another driver on Route 72, causing his car to hit a pole and burst into flames, Stafford police said.

STAFFORD, NJ — Police have revealed more details about the fatal fiery crash on Route 72 Saturday night.

The collision happened at about 7:45 p.m. on Route 72 near Mill Creek Road, police said. A 26-year-old Barnegat man was driving east on the highway in a 2018 Subaru when a 2023 Chevrolet Corvette, driven by Kevin Scoda, a 24-year-old from Edison, collided with him, police said.

Scoda's car then lost control, veered off the road and crashed into a utility pole, bursting into flames, police said.

Unidentified citizens helped Scoda out of the car before emergency services arrived, police said.

Scoda was taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center, where he died from his injuries, police said.

Traffic was diverted off Route 72 eastbound for about two hours during the investigation.
