New Jersey Man Steals Video Games, Sells Them, Buys Heroin

Report of stolen video games leads to arrest of Erik V. Heiselmoyer, police say.

Stafford police say a Manahawkin man stole video games from a Nautilus Drive home, sold the games to GameStop in Waretown and used the proceeds to buy heroin.

Police responded to the home at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 28 on a report of the theft of three video games and learned that Erik V. Heiselmoyer, 22, Nautilus Drive, sold the games that day.

Patrolman R. Griffin stopped a car that Heiselmoyer was believed to be driving during the theft at 8 p.m. that night. The driver was confirmed as Heiselmoyer, along with passengers Kevin Samler, 24, Beach Lane and Robert I. Alprin, 29, Route 72.

Heiselmoyer was immediately arrested on the strength of an unrelated warrant issued by Stafford Township Municipal Court. Investigation revealed that the three subjects left GameStop and drove to the Atlantic City area where Heiselmoyer purchased heroin, used the drugs, then drove back to Manahawkin. Heroin and drug paraphernalia were found during a search of the car.

Heiselmoyer was transported to police headquarters where he was charged with theft, use of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while intoxicated, and several other motor vehicle violations.

Heiselmoyer has a 1 p.m. court date in Stafford Township Municipal Court on Feb. 6.

Samler was charged with allowing an intoxicated driver to operate a vehicle that he was responsible for.

Robert Alprin was charged with hindering his own apprehension after he gave a false name and birth date to police to avoid being arrested on two active warrants, one from Brick Township and one from Surf City, police said.
