Manahawkin Pharmacy To Provide Free Narcan On Friday
The drug, which can work to reverse an opioid overdose, will be free to mark Overdose Awareness Day.

MANAHAWKIN, NJ — AtlantiCare Pharmacy in Manahawkin will provide free Narcan on Friday, while supplies lasts. The drug can work to reverse an opioid overdose.
The pharmacy, located at 517 Route 72 W, is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. AtlantiCare is providing the drug for free at its pharmacies one day before International Overdose Awareness Day on Saturday, Aug. 31.
Naloxone, frequently referred to by its brand name Narcan, works by blocking opioid drugs from binding to the brain, and can reverse and stop opioid overdoses. Further medical care is usually required after naloxone is used to stop an overdose. It can be given as an injection but most free kits are generally the spray version.

First-responders administered naloxone more than 16,000 times last year in New Jersey, according to state Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal.
The AtlantiCare Foundation is funding the Narcan distribution event in part through a donation from Robert and Helene Hordes, of Linwood.
