Manahawkin's MATES Teachers Ranked Among Best In Nation
The Marine Academy of Technology & Environmental Sciences ranked near the top of Niche's list of Best Public High School Teachers.
MANAHAWKIN, NJ — A Manahawkin school has some of the best teachers in the nation, according to Niche. The Marine Academy of Technology & Environmental Science (MATES) placed 14th on Niche's list of Best Public High School Teachers in America.
Rankings are based on student and parent ratings of teachers, teacher salaries, teacher absenteeism, teacher tenure, student-teacher radio and the Niche Academics Grade for the school. Read more on the methodology.
MATES is a specialized high school developed around the marine and environmental science theme. It is geared toward students who want to concentrate their students in math and science. MATES falls under Ocean County Vocational Technical School umbrella of schools.

MATES ranked behind only two other New Jersey schools:
- Union County Magnet High School, Scotch Plains (eighth overall)
- Bergen County Academies, Hackensack (10th overall)
Niche analyzes and grades U.S. schools, colleges, neighborhoods and companies. MATES often ranks toward the top of their lists in New Jersey and nationally. In February, Niche ranked MATES 10th among all New Jersey schools and 31st among public schools in the nation.
