Manhunt After Fatal South Jersey Hit-And-Run: Cops

A manhunt is underway after a fatal hit-and-run crash in South Jersey this weekend, police said. State officials are also involved in the investigation since it happened in the area of one of their facilities.

The driver struck a woman in Woodland Township at 1:22 p.m. on Friday, police said. As of Thursday, police were still searching for the suspect.

The New Jersey Department of Human Services released the following statement regarding the fatal accident at the New Lisbon Developmental Center:

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident. We share in the sadness and send prayers and condolences to the victim’s family and friends. The department is working with New Jersey State Police on this active investigation. Further inquiries should be directed to the New Jersey State Police at 609-882-2000."

The pedestrian was struck near Gilbert and Kester streets in Woodland Township. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, police said.

The woman, who was not identified, was taken to Deborah Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, police.

The State Police's Fatal Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the incident.
