Pedestrian Struck On Route 9 Taken To Southern Ocean Medical Center

Andrew Stapinski, 78, was crossing the street at milepost 70.7 in Manahawkin when the incident occurred.

A pedestrian who was struck by a car on Route 9 in Manahawkin suffered head, face and hand lacerations on Monday evening, Stafford Township police said.

Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on Monday near milepost 70.7, according to the police report.

The Initial investigation determined that a 2011 Honda Civic operated by Elizabeth Edwards, 24, Waretown, was traveling north on Route 9. The Edwards vehicle struck Andrew Stapinski, 78, Little Egg Harbor. Stapinski was crossing the street from Manahawkin Lake Park to a retail strip mall when the incident occurred, police said.

Stapinski was taken to the Southern Ocean Medical Center by Stafford Township EMS.

Patrolman Jillson is the investigating officer. He was assisted by Officer Mauro and Officer Oler.
