Planning Board Gives Preliminary Approval To Controversial Project

Plans for The Edge at Barnegat call for retail space and three-story apartment buildings.

The Barnegat Planning Board recently approved preliminary plans for The Edge at Barnegat, a project that includes a mix of retail and space for 180 apartments, according to app.com.

The project includes 33,600 feet of retail space and three-story apartment buildings on 13.7 acres in the area of Route 9, Georgetown Boulevard and Old Main Shore Road.

Not everyone is happy with the proposed project. More than 200 residents have signed a petition opposing the plans. Committeewoman Elaine Taylor said the project would bring more families with children, which would burden the Barnegat school district.
