The state will provide $1 million towards the replacement of the Radio Road bridge in Little Egg Harbor.
The bridge carries traffic over Big Creek, on the way to Osborn Island in the Mystic Islands section of the township. County officials said last week, when the funding was announced, that the current timber span across the creek had reached the end of its life cycle.
The replacement span will be built using precast box beams supported on concrete pier caps and abutments. The bridge will be replaced through a stage process, meaning two way traffic will be maintained during construction.

"This is the access to Osborn Island, so to be able to keep traffic flowing during construction will be a real benefit to residents and visitors," Ocean County Freeholder John P. Kelly said.
The bridge replacement is expected to cost between $4.5 million and $5 million, county officials said. They expect to begin the process of soliciting bids for the project within the next two weeks.
