'Rebound: The Chris Herren Story' At Southern Regional High School On Thursday
Former NBA/NCAA basketball star will discuss his battle with addiction and making his way back to sobriety.

Chris Herren’s professional basketball career began to unravel with a few bad decisions.
Herren will be at Southern Regional High School on Thursday to discuss how addiction affected his life and how he found his way back to sobriety in “Rebound: The Chris Herren Story.”
“Every parent within the Southern Regional community who has had or is planning to have a child needs to attend this program,”’ Principal Eric Wilhelm said.

Herren - a former NBA/NCAA basketball star) - began the project as a part of a non-profit foundation called The Herren Project. The program focuses on providing treatment, educational and mentoring programs to those touched by addiction and to educate people of all ages on the dangers of substance abuse.
Herren will share his story in a brutally honest format, with just a microphone after a brief video that shows highlights of his basketball career and his dream to play in the NBA. But the dream soon began to fall apart.

Herren will discuss gateway drugs, prescription drug abuse, drinking and driving as well as self-harm. He will conclude with fielding questions from the audience.
Southern Regional students will attend a school-wide assembly during the school day. Parents and community members are invited to attend the evening event at 6:30 p.m. in the 11/12 gymnasium.
Tickets for the evening event are limited, free and available in the Southern Regional main offices of the 9/10 building, the 11/12 building and the Middle School.
The program at Southern has been partially funded by the Causeway Family of Dealerships in Manahawkin.
