OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — It's become a familiar issue during the new-coronavirus outbreak, and Ocean County is no exception. County officials urged the public not to dispose of used gloves on the ground.

“On a recent trip to the supermarket I was stunned by the number of used plastic gloves in the parking lot,” said County Freeholder Director Joseph H. Vicari. “This cannot continue.”

The used gloves pose a health threat and a danger to the environment, Vicari says. Rubber gloves can also block up storm drains and wash into bodies of water.

Vicari suggested people bring plastic bags with them while shopping or visiting other destinations. Then they can place the gloves in the plastic bag and throw them out at home.

The freeholder director also asked food stores, convenience stores and other retail establishments to place additional trash cans in their parking lots.

“It doesn’t take much time or effort to remove the gloves and throw them in a trash can,” said Freeholder Gerry P. Little.
