School Bus Crashes On N.J. Highway

A school bus crashed on Route 72 on Wednesday, police said.

A school bus crashed on a New Jersey highway on Wednesday, police said.

According to police:

At 2 p.m., Stafford Township Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Route 72 at the intersection of Nautilus Drive.

An investigation at the scene revealed that A 2010 Jeep operated by Joseph Schmid, 30 of Manahawkin was traveling west on Route 72 when a mini-bus operated by Anni McNelly, 75 of West Creek made a left hand turn from Route 72 east to access Nautilus Drive in front of Schmid’s vehicle.

Schmid attempted to avoid the mini-bus. However, contact occurred within the intersection. Schmid’s vehicle continued west contacting a third vehicle stopped on Nautilus Drive operated by Margaret Franchi, 43 of Whiting who was waiting to access Route 72 west.

All three vehicles were towed from the scene. Traffic was stopped during parts of the investigation resulting in minor backups. The bus owned by Durham School services had a teen-aged school student and one other adult on board at the time of the collision. No injuries were reported from any involved.

This collision is under investigation by Officer Justin Pascale, he was assisted with traffic by Patrolman Rob Mullin and Sergeant Al Halliday. Any witnesses are asked to contact, 609-597-1189 Ext 8436. No summonses have been issued pending the outcome of the investigation.
