Search for a Replacement Food Store in Barnegat Continues

Buy in Barnegat Program successful, Committeman reports.

The search for a replacement food store to fill the space left empty by Genuardi's continues, according to Barnegat Township Committeeman Albert Bille.

Bille said that Bottom Dollar Foods has been contacted by township officials, and "they may be a good fit for the town," he said at the Township Committee meeting Monday.

He said that the committee has sent the business many letters, and are waiting to hear back from the business for further actions.

The empty lot of the old Sweet Jenny’s restaurant is also in the process of being sold, and Denny’s chain restaurant has reportedly contacted the township about the property.

Bille also reported on the Buy in Barnegat program, held from May 1 to May 31, which he said featured 35 merchants and vendors, who gave away over $10,000 in savings for the 850 customers who picked up cards.

Bille said that the merchants want to continue the program because it brought foot traffic up 20-25 percent.

“It has been a huge success, and we are definitely looking into doing this again in October,” said Bille.
