Communication Concepts Class Creates Children’s Books
Mrs. Abbato's class, Communication Concepts: Speech & Writing Beyond the Classroom, is once again demonstrating how what they do in the course can be used for community good. The high school students made holiday children's books for students at the Horbelt School in Barnegat. The books were personalized based on information provided by 4th grade teacher, Mr. DeGrazio. The Southern Regional students presented and read the books they authored to their new 4th grade buddies.

Southern Art Students Create Ornaments
Advanced Painting and Drawing students designed a winter themed ornament inspired by a master work of art. Beginning students in Mrs. Hoffman’s Painting and Drawing classes created Shrinky Dink Zentangle Ornaments. These are ornaments that the students designed by creating zentangle sketches with a sharpie on a plastic film, then cut them out, punched a hole, and shrunk them to create the ornaments.
The holiday tree is located by the 11/12 main entrance in front of the main office.

Southern’s First MakerSpace Event
The first MakerSpace event was held on December 14, in the 9/10 Library. Our media specialist, Darlene Kowalski, and librarians from the Stafford and Waretown branches, designed activity stations where students were invited to create, invent, and design products to take home with them. Activities were both low-tech and high-tech. Students enjoyed activities such as making slime, posing for the green screen, designing fuse bead creations, and playing with circuit boards, just to name a few. Over 50 students attended the event. Another MakerSpace day is planned for February.
