Southern To Host Japanese Exchange Students

Eleven students and two teachers from Japan will travel to Southern Regional on March 16 to spend 10 days living with local families. Eleven students taking Japanese-language classes will host them.
The students are from Sosa High School, Southern Regional's sister school in Japan. The visiting students will attend school and club activities with their host students to get a better understanding of the English language and American culture.

Their trip includes a visit to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, as well as other historical sites and points of interest.
SRHS Hosts Second MakerSpace Event
Over 80 students attended the second MakerSpace event on Feb. 12 in the 9/10 Library. Students got to make slime, combine essential oils to make perfume, create bracelets on the Rainbow Loom, pose for the green screen, design fuse bead creations and use scratch art paper to make Valentines.
Media specialist Darlene Kowalski and librarians from the Stafford and Long Beach Island branches designed activity stations for students. Another MakerSpace day has been planned for early June.

- Southern Regional senior bowler Tom McCann broke a school record on senior day, bowling a 771 (235, 267, 269) Feb. 1 against Brick Township.
- Southern boys volleyball alum Collin Lockwood, who plays for Belmont Abbey, was named "Off the Block" National Libero of the Week for Feb. 11 to 17. Collin recorded 12 digs in a victory against St. Francis on Feb. 9 and eight digs against Mount Olive on Feb. 8.
- Another Southern boys volleyball alum received honors for Belmont Abbey. Liam Maxwell was named Conference of the Carolinas Player of the Week for the second time this season.
