Southern Regional Student Commits To Oklahoma State Track

MANAHAWKIN, NJ — Southern Regional High School senior Karagan Bulger signed her letter of intent for the Oklahoma State women's track team. Bulger is a member of Southern Regional's track and soccer teams.

She is pictured above with her parents, head girls track coach Jason Church, assistant girls track Ashley Furlong and head girls soccer coach Kaitlyn Hartkopf.

SRHS Athletic Director Chuck Donohue Jr. congratulated Bulger.

A small group of Southern Regional Middle School girls attended the Tween Tech conference Jan. 3 at Stockton University. The university's program engages students in hands-on science activities, encouraging girls' interest in scientific fields.

The American Association of University Women educators and volunteers helped girls from all 21 New Jersey counties. Workshop topics included graphic design, neuroscience, oceanography and chemistry.

Sports Shorts

  • Several Southern Regional boys soccer players made the 2019 Soccer Coaches Association of New Jersey All-State Team for Central Jersey II. Ben Hanneman and Kevin Kiernan made first team, while JP Prosperi made the third team.
  • Kiernan also earned several other accolades. He made the "Top 55 Public School Players" All-State second team, per the Soccer Coaches Association of New Jersey. He was also named the Shore Conference "A" South and Ocean County Player of the Year for the 2019 season.
  • The Southern Regional girls track team won the 2020 Ocean County Relays on Thursday.
  • Boys basketball alumnus Ethan DuBois helped lead the Elizabethtown men's basketball team to the 2020 Spooky Nook Tournament Championship. His team defeated Penn State Harrisburg in the first round and then St. Mary's College in the final.
