Southern Regional Students Earn National Latin Honors
One student received a gold medal, two earned silver medals and 40 students got certificates of achievement.
MANAHAWKIN, N.J. — Several Southern Regional students entered the National Latin Exam with a "carpe diem" mentality. One student received a gold medal, two earned silver medals and 40 students got certificates of achievement.
On the Latin II exam, Amanda Graessle earned a gold medal and a summā cum laude certificate. Earning silver medals and maximā cum laude certificates were Joshua Haseman on the Latin III exam and Jesse DeHart on the Latin II exam.
Earning magnā cum laude certificates were Max Steinberg on the Latin III exam andVeronica D’Amore, James Asaro, and Dominic Plesniarski on the Latin I exam. Finally, earning cum laude certificates were Reagan White and Courtney Villani on the Latin IV exam, Max Kripinski and Abigail Yacono on the Latin II exam, and Sarah Neil, Shannon Flaherty, Megan Caputo, and Emma Carreno on the Latin I exam.

The N.L.E. is offered under the joint sponsorship of the American Classical League and the National Junior Classical League. Over 139,000 students from 50 states and 20 foreign countries participated. The N.L.E. also awards scholarships for college and attending the annual American Classical League Institute.

The girls track and field team won the 2019 Ocean County Championship on May 11. The Rams won the two-day Tournament in dominating fashion. Within the past week, Southern has won the Ocean County Relay, Shore Conference "A" South Division and Ocean County Championships. The team also won the Shore Conference Championships on May 15 at Central Regional High School.

Boys lacrosse junior Cade Johnson scored his 100th career point May 15 in the Rams' NJSIAA State playoff win over Hightstown. Girls lacrosse player Holly Yannacone also posted her 100th career point May 15 in the Rams' NJSIAA State playoff win over Atlantic City.
