Art Honor Society

Thirteen Southern Regional High School students were inducted into the Art Honor Society. Induction took place at the Long Beach Island Foundation for the Arts and Sciences in Loveladies.

The induction coincided with the grand opening of the Southern Regional Art Show, which runs until April 9 and is open to the public.

Inductees included Meghan Alfredsen, Kayla Bowker, Philip Coppolino, Brenna Cousins, KaSandra Danziger, Rachel Dudonis, Dean Klunk, Carmine Martino, Alexa Mulch, Nellie Traut, Riley Vaugh, Gianna Walter and Faith Wunnenberg.

The 2019 graduating members are Maggie Brummer, Colleen Farina, Cameron Hill, Kari Klimek, Abigail LeCompte, Emily Maldonado and Tim Oler.

Future Educators Meet Dr. Thomas Howard

Dr. Thomas Howard, the director for the Center for Future Educators at TCNJ, visited Southern Regional on March 25. He met with Mrs. Latshaw's Tomorrow's Teachers class and the Future Educators Club.

Howard spoke about the important role educators play in society and recounted some of his own educational journey. Tomorrow's Teachers is a dual-credit course offered at Southern that provides students interested in teaching with insight into the profession.

Sailing News

Southern began the spring season by winning both division of the Icebreaker Regatta in Toms Rivers. They took team honors by more than 10 points.

The team won four of 14 events and consistently stayed in the top. Brielle Willoughby and Nate Ertle won A Division by four points with a 3-1-2-4-1-3-8, while Bridget Green with Joe Mraczek and Alex Klinov took B Division by a point with a 2-1-5-3-2-1-3.

The sailing team also led the 17-boat fleet at the Ocean County College Invitational most of the day before Rumson edged ahead in the top of the last set.

Tom Green and Joe Mraczek won the last B Division Set, clinching the final race and putting Southern back on top to win the OCCI.

Brielle Willoughby and Bridget Green hung tough in A Division. They finished fourth in A Division with a 3-3-2-6-4-12. Meanwhile, Green and Mraczek won B Division by 9 points with a 1-4-4–1-3-1.
