Stafford Police Arrest Man Wanted For $386,000 In Bank Fraud By Opening Up Phony Bank Accounts

Stafford was involved in a joint investigation of Daniel White, 49, of Manalapan.

Daniel A. White, 49, apparently has been very busy over the past year.

Stafford police say that White, a Manalapan resident, is accused of conspiring with others to defraud TD Bank out of $386,000 from at least 86 phony checking accounts in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts since June of 2015.

Stafford police, a U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force and the New Jersey State Police's Casino Investigation Unit arrested White at an area casino in Atlantic City on June 18, Patrolman Christopher Fritz said.

White attempted to open a fraudulent account in Manchester Township on May 9. But an employee became suspicious and called police. White fled the scene, leading the police on a vehicle pursuit where he nearly struck an officer before the pursuit was terminated by police, said Fritz.

White then attempted to open up a phony account at a TD Bank in Stafford Township on June 10. But bank employees recognized him from previous fraud attempts and called police.

When Stafford police arrived, White fled the scene in a vehicle and police began a brief police pursuit.

"Police opted not to pursue Mr. White as he approached a school zone, however witnesses reported that the suspect continued to flee the area at a high rate of speed, forcing several school buses off the roadway as he traveled on the wrong side of the highway," Fritz said.

Further investigation by Stafford Township detectives determined that Mr. White then traveled to New Haven CT, Brooklyn, and Westfield, NJ where he continued his bank fraud scheme.

Police finally caught up with White in Atlantic City, where he was arrested by Detective Drew Smith and Detective Bob Trainor of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Fugitive Task Force. White is lodged in the Ocean County Jail in lieu of $125,000 bail. He was charged with multiple counts of second-degree eluding police in a motor vehicle, and numerous fraud and theft related charges. Interstate charges are pending further investigation, Fritz said.

Anyone with any information regarding this investigation may contact Detective Drew Smith of the Stafford Township Police Department at (609)597-1189 ext 8435.
