Stafford Schools Superintendent Nets DUI Charge After Crash: Report
George Chidiac was charged with a DUI after hitting a utility pole near his home in Berkeley, according to a report.
BERKELEY, NJ — The superintendent of the Stafford Township School District was charged with driving under the influence after a crash where he hit a utility pole with his car near his home in Berkeley Township last month, according to a report.
George J. Chidiac was found after midnight on Oct. 27 walking away from the crash near Chelsea Drive and Mill Creek Road, according to the Asbury Park Press, citing a Berkeley police report.
Chidiac was found by Mill Creek Park, where he told officers he had walked to get help, according to the report.

The crash happened less than a mile from his home, the Asbury Park Press reported. It occurred after Chidiac left Stonefire Bar and Grill in Beachwood, according to the report.
He was taken into custody after he couldn't answer questions in complete sentences and failed a field sobriety test, according to the Asbury Park Press.

Chidiac has served as superintendent of the Stafford Township School District since 2013.
The Stafford Township Board of Education's monthly meeting is set for Nov. 18. A public hearing had been set to discuss Chidiac's contract, however, this was canceled prior to the meeting. A reason for the cancellation was not given.
