An 18-year-old girl was dismembered in what authorities called a "tragic boating accident" off Harvey Cedars, police said.

HARVEY CEDARS, NJ — An 18-year-old from Wayne was dismembered in what authorities called a "tragic boating accident" Sunday off the coast of Harvey Cedars, police said.

The girl died after she was dismembered by a motor on a boat driven by her father, according to NBC Philadelphia, citing an unnamed law enforcement source.

New Jersey State Police told Patch the girl, Zeina Mahafzah, was on a raft being pulled by a boat in the waters off Sunset Park in Harvey Cedars.

As she was trying to board the boat, she was struck by the boat's propeller, police said. She was fatally injured by the impact.

Harvey Cedars police said Sunday evening that an investigation into a "tragic boating accident" was in its preliminary stages.

Multiple traumatized people on board the boat were treated by EMS, according to NBC Philadelphia.
