BARNEGAT-MANAHAWKIN, NJ — Fall is a great time to get outside in New Jersey and take in the rich offering of festivals.
The changing colors of autumn provide a scenic background for fall and harvest festivals, which have contests ranging from apple bobbing and pumpkin carving to lumberjack contests and Halloween parades.
Fall is also the season for corn mazes, pumpkin patches and apple orchard visits.

Here are a few festivals and events around Barnegat and Manahawkin worth putting on the calendar:
- Downtown Toms River will have its Harvest Arts Festival Oct. 15 on Washington Street, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Taste wine from local wineries with the Sip in Autumn fall wine festival at Bayville's Veterans Park, on Oct. 15 and 16.
- Hearts of Mercy is hosting a Family Fall Festival at Breakers in Waretown on Oct. 22.
- Hoofy's Fall Fest is set at 11 Birdsall St. on Oct. 22 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- On Oct. 23, One Ocean County will hold a fall festival in Common Grounds, its community garden at the John Patrick Sports Complex on Oak Avenue in Lakewood.
- Bayside Chapel in Stafford hosts their annual Family Fall Fest on Oct. 29 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
