Victim Of Little Egg Harbor Murder-Suicide Identified: Prosecutor

Authorities say that a Little Egg Harbor woman was killed by her ex-husband in a murder-suicide over the weekend.

LITTLE EGG HARBOR, NJ — The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office has identified the victim and suspect in the Little Egg Harbor murder-suicide as a divorced couple.

On July 29, Kimberly Hoffman, 49, of Little Egg Harbor was killed by her ex-husband, Carl Schulz, Jr., 52, also of Little Egg Harbor, before he took his own life, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

At about 5:10 a.m. that day, local police responded to a call from a woman on Whitemarsh Court who said someone was breaking into her apartment, Billhimer said.

Police arrived and forced entry into the apartment where Hoffman was dead on the floor with a gunshot wound to her face, Billhimer said.

A dead dog with gunshot wounds was also found in the apartment, Billhimer said.

Schulz was also found with a gunshot wound to the head, but was still conscious when police arrived, Billhimer said. He was pronounced dead at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City.

Investigation revealed that Schulz shot Hoffman and the dog before turning the gun on himself, Billhimer said.

A GoFundMe launched by Hoffman's coworkers to support her children has already nearly reached its $25,000 goal less than 24 hours after its creation.
