Waretown Bakery Is Giving Away Free Donuts

Here's where you can score a freebie on National Donut Day.

There are plenty of local shops where you can celebrate National Donut Day on Friday, June 7. Among them, the Waretown Bakery is letting every customer have a free donut during normal business hours.

Waretown Bakery closes at 4 p.m., according to their Facebook page.

But if you're not in that area (or you just want to collect every free donut while the going's good), here's where else you can score a freebie Friday:

  • Dunkin' Donuts is giving away a free classic donut at every location with the purchase of any beverage.
  • Participating Walmarts are giving each customer a free glazed donut.
  • In Toms River today? Uncle Dood's is doing a gift card scavenger hunt throughout downtown.

But remember that the day is about more than free donuts. National Donut Day began in 1938, created by the Salvation Army to celebrate the women who served hot, fresh donuts to American soldiers in France during World War I. These women were called "Donut Lassies" and are credited with the increased popularity of donuts in the U.S. after the war ended.
