What's Coming Up at Tonight's Board of Ed Meeting

Votes on SRO contracts, official announcement of superintendent's resignation and kudos for high-scoring test-takers

The Barnegat Township Board of Education gathers for its February meeting at 6:30 p.m. today at the high school. Here's a look at what to expect from the meeting, including a vote on whether to approve SRO contracts and the official public announcement of the resignation of superintendent Jason Bing.

The full agenda is posted on the district website

  • The board is set to recognize students of the month from around the district from Nov. 2010 to Jan. 2011.
  • Also up for recognition are dozens of students who received perfect scores on their 2010 New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge (NJASK) tests.
  • Other student achievements and groups to receive mention include the Brackman Middle School Jazz Ensemble and Instrumental Program, star high school football players Michael DeTroia and Nick SanGiacomo, new inductees to the National Honor Society, high school and middle school cheerleaders and the girls' bowling team.
  • The Board will address several motions to approve the submission of solar project plans for the district schools to the Department of Education for review and approval. Read more about the project, which is part a push to slash energy costs in the district, in this story.
  • The Board will offer the official public notice of the resignation of superintendent Jason Bing, along with a few other notifications of staff resignations, retirement and medical leave.
  • It will also vote again on a motion to re-approve two full-time special resources officers (SROs) for the district for the current school year. Each officer would be paid $58,066.32. The motion was rejected at the January BOE meeting, but must come up for a vote again because the full board was not present for the initial vote.
  • Bus routes for the 2010-2011 school year will be approved.
