Who's Running In Barnegat, Stafford School Boards

Here's who's running for a spot on one of three school boards in Barnegat and Stafford townships.

BARNEGAT-MANAHAWKIN, NJ — July 25 was the filing deadline for school board candidates. According to the Ocean County Clerk, here are the candidates for the Barnegat Board of Education, Stafford Board of Education and Southern Regional Board of Education.

Barnegat Township School District

There are three open three-year term seats and two one-year unexpired term seats. Under the slogan "Excellence for Barnegat" are incumbents Sean O'Brien and Michael Hickey, with Scott Beck.

Running under the slogan "Excellence Above Politics" are Scott Sarno, Carol Geene and Dave Sherman.

George Fedorczyk, Jr. is running under the slogan "Excellence Before Politics."

Stafford Township School District

There are three open three-year term seats and and one unexpired one-year term seat. For the three-year seats, Chris Smith, Kevin Cooney and Joseph Washco are running under the slogan "Students First." Cooney and Washco are incumbents.

Gregory Gioe, III and incumbent Mark Zoladz are also vying for the three-year spots.

Two are running for the unexpired seat. Cono Cirone is also under the "Students First" slogan. Karen Kleban-Allen is running under the "Back to Basics" slogan.

Southern Regional School District

One three-year seat is open in Stafford and two seats are open from the LBI sending districts of Barnegat Light, Harvey Cedars, Ship Bottom, Surf City and Long Beach Township. There is also an unexpired one-year term seat from Beach Haven.

Running from Stafford are Kevin C. Lyons and Joseph Mangino. Neither provided a slogan. Lyons is an incumbent and Mangino is currently the vice president of the Stafford Township Board of Education.

Scott R. McDonough is running to represent the LBI students with the slogan "Great Schools Matter." Incumbent Terry Deakyne is running under the "Involved Parent Member" slogan.

Incumbent James Donahower, R. Scott Zoldaz and Bethanne A. Markoski are also running from LBI. None of the three provided a slogan.

Incumbent Paul F. Sharkey is seeking the Beach Haven unexpired seat.

Voters will head to the polls on Nov. 8 for the General Election.
